REVELSTOKE BACKCOUNTRY GUIDES
helping you create the ultimate backcountry experience
OMAKASE style Ski Touring and Splitboarding
“Omakase” is a Japanese word that means to respectfully allow another to decide what is best.
We handcraft each itinerary and ski tour to focus on your group’s goals, ability levels and most importantly, current snowpack and weather conditions to maximize your on snow experience.
These mountains are different.
Our snowpack is the perfect blend of quality and quantity. The terrain ranges from unique cedar old growth forests – perfect for storm skiing- to high alpine glaciated terrain and traverses. Simply put, we believe the Selkirks are the best ski mountains on Earth.
“The Selkirks abound in abrupt, bold forms such as narrow V-shaped valleys and sharp A-shaped peaks. Mountains, valley, glaciers, and torrents are crowded together in a compact maze. They press upon one irresistibly from every side and merely to be among them is to sense their rugged vigorous appeal.” – Howard Palmer Mountaineering and Exploration in the Selkirks
Revelstoke Backcountry Guides is committed to safety minded, high adventure experiences in the Columbia mountains of B.C. we offer a trip consulting service.
Revelstoke is located within striking distance of several international airports. The majority of our skiers arrive by air through Kelowna YLW, then transfer by car to Revelstoke (2 hrs). Other itineraries include travel through Calgary (4.75 hrs), Kamloops (2.5 hrs), Spokane (6 hrs), Seattle (7.5 hrs) or Vancouver (7 hrs).
Our farthest commute from Revelstoke to our ski terrain is 45minutes via the Trans Canada Highway to Rogers Pass.
We are available for guided skiing in the region from December to May. Below are some seasonal generalizations.
December- Mid January Days are short and typically filled with deep cold snow. Historically, Revelstoke is one of the best places for early season powder skiing with excellent coverage and regular storm skiing. Sunny days tend to be scarce. The mountains are typically less crowded and lodge space and local accommodations are more readily available.
Mid January-Early March Heart of the season with typically deep snowpack (2-4meters) and reliable powder skiing conditions with chances for better visibility. February is the high season with very limited last minute availability.
Mid March-Mid April Early spring conditions with equal chances at sunny alpine conditions with excellent snow or spring powder skiing. Generally rock climbing and mountain biking areas in Revelstoke become dry enough for multisport days.
Late April- May Spring ski mountaineering season with corn skiing and big overnight objectives. Mountains can be in excellent condition at the higher elevations. Tent based or traverse type programs are ideal at this time of year with many of our guides traveling to higher elevation zones or more Northern latitudes.
We know the local options and can help you plan other aspects of your trip.
